‘Doctor Who’ spinoff ‘Class’ gives school a funny, sexy sci-fi twist

The upcoming BBC series about teens attending Clara Oswald’s Coal Hill School promises to be full of mystery and adventure.

“Doctor Who” spinoff TV series “Class” is almost in session.

Creator and writer Patrick Ness revealed in a new video more details about what makes “Class,” which centers on teens attending Clara Oswald’s Coal Hill School, different from other “Doctor Who” spinoffs like “Torchwood” and “The Sarah Jane Adventures.”

“‘Class’ is funny and moving and exciting and scary and sexy, and it’s true, I hope, to what teenagers feel like their lives are,” Ness said in the video, which was released on September 23.

“I’d love to do something really, really new,” Ness added. “Being able to look at the Doctor Who universe from a different perspective… I would find that interesting.”

The main characters in “Class” include students Charlie (Greg Austin), April (Sophie Hopkins), Ram (Fady Elsayed) and Tanya (Vivian Oparah), as well as their physics teacher Miss Quill (Katherine Kelly), who has been described as a “powerful new presence.”
